In my time away I had lost track of my email for South Alabama Skywarn, and upon my return home I received quite a bit of positive feedback and inquiry. But there was one that stood out and I wanted to share with the group. This is one of our key missions (public outreach and awareness) and it makes me proud to see we are having an impact in the community not only in public safety but in education.
“Hi, I thought I’d take a quick moment to send you some positive feedback. I volunteer with the youth commission, and right now we are learning about weather and storm spotting/chasing. A couple meteorologists are coming in tomorrow to speak to the group about weather safety, storm spotting & the skywarn program, etc. To prepare for their talk we’ve had the kids do some research, and the South Alabama Skywarn page: http://www.southalabamaskywarn.org/links.htm has been a huge help – so we wanted to reach out as a group and thank you.
When I mentioned to the group we would be emailing you to let you know how much we appreciated your help, one of the kids in our program, Jake, suggested that I pass another article your way that he found, “A Guide to Weather Vanes” at https://www.alansfactoryoutlet.com/a-guide-to-weather-vanes . Jake thought it was really cool to learn about the history of weather forecasting before we had the advanced technology we have today. He wanted to pass it along to you because he thought you might like to add it to the other resources on your page.
Regardless, we all wanted to thank you very much for your help in our project. If you do decide to add Jake’s suggestion we meet with the meteorologists tomorrow afternoon and I’d love to let him know. I know he’d be so proud.
Thanks again,
Warmly,
Amy”
Thank you for reaching out to us Amy and we are glad to be of service to you and the bright young minds of tomorrow. We have added the requested link and we hope your students continue there pursuit in science.
